Whilst watching a recording of an interview given by Ian Fleming, I could not help noticing the watch he was wearing, it looked to me like an Oyster bracelet, I have circled what I believe to be the rolex crown. What do you Turfers think?

We have all heard of the "James Bond" submariner, can this be the "Ian Fleming" Rolex.

PS: Apologies for the quality of the image, it was taken from an interview taken latest 1963, the year of Ian Fleming's death.

Wishing all turfers a happy new year.

I think that if you can, in any meaningful way, make that out to be a Rolex crown...then you should be used by NASA instead of the Hubble telescope.

(Oh...and it can't be the crown where you have circled.  The clasp is not that long).

It IS a Rolex crown! Can anyone else see that face on Mars? Seriously though I.F. did wear a Rolex Explorer (dial) Oyster, probably from the same batch that Buster Crabbe got his - circa late fifties. They were issued to RN personnel on "special duties" or what you might call spying.

so Bond's Rolex was probably an Explorer and not a Sub.

I would think a sub for Bond with all of the scuba diving he did.

When I saw the watch on the interview [taken from a dvd] the device on the clasp, did resemble  the Rolex crown, it was however difficult to 'freeze' the image, for that I do apologise.

just so you know this is Ian Fleming's ROLEX 6538

yes, it is a rolex bracelet with crown on claps

yes, he wanted sean connery to wear it in Dr NO

yes, sean's wrist was too big

yes, he decided to put a nato strap on it (thought the one he found was too small for the lugs)

and ,yes, it doesn't look that bad ;-)

"On the very first day of filming DR.NO it was discovered the Sean Connery hadn't been given a Rolex watch to wear. The scene required it, so nothing more could be done until one could be procured. Director Terence Young, himself a former real-life "James Bond", stepped in to save the day by lending Connery his own Rolex. Filming proceeded and the rest, as they say, is cinema history!"
