Hi,

I like my bracelet but would like to get a leather strap for my datejust 16220.

Firstly, does anyone know the correct size of strap.

Secondly, will there be a gap where the lugs are, as the bracelet end covers the gap between the watch and the bracelet.

I have seen black leather on datejusts which looks really good but I also like brown leather.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Any pics would be very kind.

Hope all are well!!!

The width between the lugs on a Datejust is 20mm and, yes, there will be a visible gap when worn with a leather strap. IMO, this doesn't look that good since the case between the lugs is unpolished. Rolex get around this problem by using special endpieces on their strap models.

As for the colour of strap, this is entirely your own preference.
My watches that are on straps are worn on black leather during the winter months (when I wear dark suits) and then I change to brown/tan straps in the Spring and Summer (when I wear cream linen suits).

Thank you Harb!

Does anyone know if I can get a set of end pieces?

I can put them onto a strap then. I don't think I want to put a strap on without the end pieces unless I can get one made to measure.

I hadn't thought about it but the serial no etc would be on show and that is not really what I was after.

Hi,

I have heard that you can get similar end pieces for the leather straps from the old tudor leather straps. Is this true please?

If it is , I would be very grateful if anyone knows where I can hunt a set down.

Many thanks!!

Hope all are well!!

Hi Mike, you want to get a Hirsch curved-end strap, i have one on my 16013 datejust and it looks great, here is a pic of the same strap on a speedmaster.

the only problem in had was the spring bars that come with the strap are to thin for Rolex (they have to go into a plastic insert) so i just tapped a Rolex spring bar into the plastic insert.

you can get the straps from Mike Wood at the http://www.theoldwatchshop.co.uk/

Cordovan leather is the only way to go.  I've had the same cordovan leather strap on my GMT-Master II for three years now and it still looks brand spanking new.

H K Tan from TZ , makes some great croc, allig. straps as per our specifications. Since all rolexs are 20mm / 16mm.

Chris,

Cheers , I got a Hirsch Leonardo curved-end strap from a jewellers in my town. A lot of places did not have them in stock.

Very happy with it. Would recommend it and he has a wide selection.

The gentleman fitted the pin with the strap though, I wondered what you meant about the pin that comes with the strap is too small. The strap is on quite tight. He may of had a selection in the jewellers.

He fitted it as he has the special tool , I wondered if I could purchase one of these tools to change the strap myself.

Here are some pics.

I certainly have Chris,

I must admit, I think the black strap is essential too, I almost got it in case but I don't have the tool to change the straps. I will get one though.

The next thing.... I really like the 16110 Sub....... and I know I always work toward my goals. I try to think I can go without it but I think the 16220 datejust and the 16110 Sub would be a nice start to a common sense approach to rolex buying.

Thank you once again for your advice. Hope all is well.
