Hi gentlemen,

I'm looking at a TT blue sub.  Great looking condition, a couple of years old, $4000.  What thoughts on that price?

Also, prices for new-in-box rolex here:

        TT sub: $5050
        Ex. II  : $3050
        SS Sub, no date: $2800
        SS SD : $3200?

Saudi has no sales tax.

How do these compare to US these days?

Best, Stewart

JJ if you can sponsor my vacation to Grand Cayman,i can ship some over.they have a 15% markdown from us retail on their SS models. so a no date sub was 2700$    with no tax or duty charges

While the retail prices are great compared to those in the US, the used price is not good at all compared to your list prices.  Also, what is the first letter of the serial on it?  Pre or post "P"?  That would make a big difference.  Box and papers included?  All these factors need to be considered on a used watch.  At $4,000 you are only saving about 20% off the new list price there.  You can buy that watch for about 12% off brand new.  I would demand at least 25% off on preowned if it is super clean with all the accessories and post "P".  That would bring your price on it to about $3,750 max!

Thanks Stryke,

That TT used was the one I was considering.  I was hoping to get it for around $3,500 but that is probably asking too much.  Box, papers, etc are okay although I dont know model number.  What is pre or post "P"?

Thanks,

Stewart

P series, K series then Y series (most recent serial #s start with "Y")

The series or serial number denotes when approximately the watch was produced. Latest one is the Y series as shamrock said. Starting with the P serials, there were a few changes. As for the TT Sub goes, the changes were SEL (Solid End Links for the bracelet) and more gold on the clasp and a bit different design.

So, it makes more sense, if you get a used Sub, and the price is not a bargain (i.e. below $3K), to go for a P serial or newer.

Ohh s$$t, you are right!!! How could I forget such an important difference? :-)

Go new IMHO, particularly at those prices sans tax.  There are marginal savings buying second hand.  Also u get the priviledge of putting your own scratches on the new timepiece. :-)
