I'm leaving for Jersey later today. Going to be there for a couple of weeks r & r. :) Do we have any Jersey Turfers? I'm hoping to get some shopping in whilst over there and perhaps do a bit of fishing. Also looking forward to trying the local cuisine.

I think he means Jersey in the UK. Not New Jersey USA. :) But with Chris, you never know ;)

Arrived safely and even made it in time for dinner at the hotel. Weather isn't too bad and forecast is fine for the next week, at least.
Oh - yes, it is Jersey as in the Channel Islands and Bergerac TV show!
Also nice that I've found an unsecured wi-fi network to gain access to Turf! :)

Have a great hol in our "third home" Chris... Especially good wishes for the weather - as we are in Cornwall next week for the rest of Aug - not a million miles away!
My wife is a Jersey girl (many generations), with loads of family still there...
I always thought that this would be a great excuse to live there on the "local list" ( eg a local pays £300k for a house which non-locals have to pay £10m for ( plus a gift to the Balliwick of Jersey) - but no luck: she doesn't want to live back there, so the Isle of Wight & Cornwall was my compromise! :)
I do understand that she doesn't want to continue her life in a goldfish bowl (an Island girl making it to Oxford Uni in the late 60s was an unusual occurance and elicited some interest, (especially as her Professor was Tolkein) but these days things are somewhat different...) Marital harmony is much more important than geography though, so the compromise doesn't seem at all difficult to live with :)

Thanks! Weather outlook is pretty decent for the coming week. Went to Corbierre light-house today and also had a stroll along the beach at Gorey. Any recommendations for places to visit?

I must admit that we rarely get to the more popular touristy areas nowadays - we usually moor up in St Helier Marina (usually less than 5 hours door-to-door from Cowes to St H) and go visiting family. I also admit to not venturing there at the height of school hols any more.
I imagine that you are equipped with the latest "What's On" info and have done some homework, so I can't really add much, but places we like are:-
Greve de Lecq and the north coast around there in general (you can often walk out of reach of the "touristy" tourists!),
St Ouen's Bay for surfing (....and the other side of the road - say around Watershoot - for some good walking/scenery) esp early morning/late evening,
Portelet Bay - but watch the tide!
St Aubin's Harbour (which, I'm sure you know, features the pub from Bergerac).
.... also the Garden Restaurant in Jersey Pottery, Gorey, is popular with the locals (and no-doubt school-holiday visitors?) for al fresco lunches.
Have a great time Chris - hope the weather holds fair.
Where are you staying (area, I mean...), by the way?

Staying in Gorey.
Thanks for the suggestions - we'll be sure to check out at least some of them.
My biggest problem at the moment is trying to get food that I can eat - as so many things cause me stomach problems, or I simply don't like! :( Haven't seen too many things that I'd consider particularly dangerous yet, apart from clambering over the rocks. Anyway, with no NHS over here an accident could prove rather costly ( although, yes I do have insurance ).

Oh right, Gorey is a good place (probably one of my wife's favourites... thought that's probably as much to do with family and friends there :))
Hope you find something to eat - there seems pretty good choice on the Island, although we're always drawn towards the seafood restaurants (or our own cooking of same on the boat :)).

Finally, found the main shopping precinct today, albeit as the shops were closing. Still, I noticed some very nice looking watch dealers, so will go and do some browsing this week. I'm particularly keen to visit the JLC shops to have a look. :)
