My wife and I last week attended an evening dinner event hosted by Rolex and Mikimoto as guests of our AD.

Good food, drink, conversation and, of course, the watches and pearls. Rolex presented this year's Basle releases and there was a great selection to try and, if so minded, to buy - including both white and black SS Daytonas, SDDS and Milgauss GV.

I really liked the SDDS - hadn't worn one before but it felt amazingly solid on the wrist. Not at all top-heavy or unbalanced and even though I don't have the hugest of wrists it sat and looked fine - but then I'd just taken off a 44mm Pan!

I was also very much taken by the WG Sub. There's a real heft to the watch and I really really like the shade of blue used for the dial/bezel. In fact, every patriotic Scot should have one as it's the colour of the St Andrews flag!

Sim tried on a few and particularly liked this DJ...

The Mikmoto pearls were a truly wonderful product. At the end of the night just before we were leaving, the two Mikmoto reps asked Sim if she'd like to try on a couple of custom pieces that they had only for display - these were phenomenal creations but unfortunately my photography skills let me down somewhat and the resultant photos have been embargoed by a higher power...;)

The price tag for one of the necklaces was about the same as the jewelled Patek I tried on the last time (http://newturfers.com/bin/mwf/topic_show.pl?pid=526557) we were inivited to dinner by the AD...

All in all, a delightful evening :)

both of those watches look good. I'm beginning to like the bling look on Rolex. In fact the one that has caught my eye on more than one occasion recently is the Datejust II. I love the size & presence of that watch, makes the standard 36mm Datejust look like a ladies watch. In fact my wife tried on my Dad's Datejust and it didn't look out of place on her wrist.

I agree about the SDDS (I'm wearing mine as I type), it doesn't feel uncomfortable/bulky at all and, even though I don't have the largest wrist (from the picture, probably the same size as Harb), I don't think it looks too big as the lugs don't overhang my wrist, if that makes sense.

There seem to be a lot more watches in AD's windows recently. In Brent Cross there are 2 & both have a great selection (including the SDDS).

LOL!! Now there's an idea!

Yeah, that's a great looking watch. A perfect update of an absolute classic.

I often used to regard the DJ as the "poor relation" of the sports models - not any longer. The new DJ-II are very desirable watches in their own right.
