Sean Connery never had an English accent......

And didn't wear a NATO?
The "Bond" NATO is a work of fiction, created by GQ magazine as far as I know.

You're right, Bond didn't wear a NATO but his Sub ref.6538 was on a strap.
This is a wristshot from Goldfinger:
http://www.newturfers.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2399&d=1276456759
1. The strap is a Regimental 3 color strap. It is Dark Navy, Dark Olive and four very fine burgundy stripes.
2. It is not a NATO strap. It has no 316L Stainless returns.
3. The NAVY stripes are not uniform in width. Notice the outer Navy stipes are half the width of the center stripe.
4. Notice the strap does not fit the watch. The space between the lugs in 20mm and Sean Connery's stap appears to be 16mm.
Just to be clear: A Regimental stripe band is made from one single strip of nylon-think of it as being exactly like a belt you would wear with trousers but much smaller . A NATO strap is made from two nylon straps joined together so it doubles up behind the watch unlike Sean Connery's Goldfinger watch which just has one strip that slides through the cross-bars. Not sure I'd term it a "Regimental" strap.

What would you call it? AFAIK, those colours are actually the genuine regimental colours of the General Service Corps.
(Good pics, though)

Nice story about the watch as well, in that Rolex wouldn't provide one for use on the movie so Broccoli used his own.

I think that may be an urban myth but if you have evidence Harb please post it here.
I've seen the black/grey strap cited as being the colours of the GSC but personally I've not been able to verify this, if black/grey are the GSC colours then blue/red/green can't be also?
The clours more closely resemble the Intelligence Corps,http://www.stablebelts.co.uk/incorps.jpg but Regimental straps that I've seen in the past mirror the stable belt pattern exactly as opposed to just using the same colours.
The size of 16mm seems strange for a military strap also. I'd simply call it a nylon watch strap.

Interesting. What I'd posted was AFAIK info gleaned from various sites. It'd be good to know definitively.
I'm not that surprised by the size, though - watches back then certainly were smaller than a Sub and a 16mm strap would fit with the 34-35mm case size that was more prevalent.

Most Military watches, certainly post war have 18mm lugs, http://www.sfu.ca/~mmh/BritishX.htm
I'm pretty sure the strap shown has nothing to do with the military and is just a simple nylon strap similar to this, http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=698&Product_Id=1278124&Parent_Id=228&default_color=GREEN-NAVY-RED&sort_by=§ioncolor=§ionsize=
As a side note, if the Rolex was indeed Broccoli's, he looks like he was a big guy,
http://www.007magazine.co.uk/images/news/adam/chitty.jpg perhaps the bracelet was too big for Connery? The pic I posted of the strap above would also suggest that it's not that long, I can't imagine Broccoli wore his watch on that so it must have been borrowed?

That's Harry Redknapp and Ossie Ardiles, isn't it?

Great info on the military watches, SINNER - thanks!
And your own thoughts on this issue are certainly very interesting and definitely a plausible theory to add to the the myth surrounding the first Bond Rolex.

I got this e-mail from the owner of the wbsite, http://www.stablebelts.co.uk/
Hello Peter
Thanks for the email. The colours on the watch strap do not seem to correspond to any stable belt that I know of. As to the General Service Corps I am not aware that they had a stable belt.
Sorry to be so negative. If you do find out please let me know.
Regards
