So what do you guys think about them? I am not crazy about the color of the new dial and bezel.

I am not crazy about the color of the new dial and bezel.

By that I presume you mean the less attractive TT Blue...;)

There's never been any problem with this colour combo, though...

As I might have said once or twice in the past...There can be only ONE!!

(...although I may not have said it in red before...;)

I own a TT Blue Sub, but as I've gotten older my tastes have changed. I'm actually pining for the TT Black but don't really want to sell the Blue to fund the purchase.

I'm toying with the idea of giving my TT Blue to my son, but not sure if I would get the go ahead on buying another watch from the Mrs.

Actually, notwithstanding everything I've said over the years about the TT Blue and its owners ("flamboyantly showy, with a penchant for making a scene wherever they go")
....I'm actually coming to like the TT Blue...and especially the new version.

It'd make a great summer-time watch :)

I never liked the old T/T Sub with blue dial but the new one is better IMO. However, the new T/T black dial Sub trounces everything - I think it's the best looking modern-day Sub and even beats the steel versions.

I must admit to being more than a little disappointed at the recent revealings at Basle.

I know that Rolex are not revolutionaries, but after 12 months is it really their best effort to remove some gold from an existing model and add steel (even their wonderfully tough and desirable steel.) plus a different colour of dial and bezel.

I have worn and loved several Blue Submariners in the past, but I cannot quite bring myself to like the current baby blue, over the good old fashioned "King Tut" Blue and Gold combination.

Having said all that and believe me this does not come easiily, I HAVE to agree with Harb(and much as I like him I hate to have to agree with him.) the new all black Bi-coloured Sub looks lovely in the photos. The ceramic bezel making it look far classier then the older style of bezel (sorry Harb) and augmenting the gold in the bracelet beautifully.

However, I am still sorry that they could not come up with something a bit more exciting.

I promise that Harb added the above comment after I had decided to add my thoughts, had I seen it first I wouuld not have replied, as I am shy, retiring, polite and constantly sober.

I think the black 116613 will sell better than the blue.

I find the look with the new Submariner in blue very washed out looking the black looks cool however consider the fact that the Submariner and the GMT11C share the same casing. I have a GMT11C and although it's a great time piece it's a bit bling bling where as my Deepsea has much less flash and is distinctly different from all the other sport watches the Rolex produce. Not enough of a difference between the two IMO.

If I had to choose between them, today, I'd go with the new black model. Trouble is, then I'd have to change my car and pens to match! :)

I have a TT Blue and still like it. From the pictures, I don't care for the new blue color as much - but I would like to see one "in the flesh". Of course Rolex did not consult me, but I would have liked to see a stainless version with the new face, hands and ceramic dial in the old blue color.

The black TT Sub is so similar to the TT GMTIIc....just different markings on the bezel until you look closely and see the extra hand on the GMT, and the different print. How many people look that close?
I prefer the GMTIIc, (well I would, because I have one), as the 24 hour ability is crucial if you travel a lot.
As to the blue TT sub....I prefer the old blue. My brother has as blue TT sub from 1990, and it's a very handsome piece. I've seen the baby blue on a YG sub, and it doesn't attract in the same way as the deep blue. The blue sub is an icon, it's a pity it's changed.

How many people look that close?

Well, if you're talking about other random people looking close that doesn't interest me in the slightest.

But to the owner or any WIS, the differences are clearly obvious.

Sure, now that the cases/crowns are the same (and most probably the WR although still officially rated differently) then the differences are the dial/bezel - but also the philosophy of the watches.

I mean, I prefer the less busy bezel of the Sub - but more than that, I'll always be a "Sub man" rather than a "GMT guy" :)

I have gone away from T/T for a long time now, prefer single color.

The similarity between black 116613 and 116713 is just too big IMHO.

I like 16613 classic blue....

I think it's gonna be attractive in the metal.

But majority of the buyers will be more interested in the Rolex logos on the watch than the colors.

The new watch is too "glossy" for my liking. They were already shiny/flashy enough.

But that's just my 2¢

And blue beats black anyday harb, Mr. Super Moderator. ;)

Is it just me or does the blue TT sub appear to have white gold hour surrounds as if its been mocked up? wheres the ones on the Black TT are yellow gold?

I will save my judgment unit I see them in person, but the back dial seem to stand out more in the new model, whereas the deep blue in the existing model in made it stand out much more than the back dial.

I see what you mean...certainly looks that way in those pictures. Will have to wait and see if real life, I guess.

Does anyone know what the UK prices for these will be and when they are going to be available?? Also being a TT watch is it reasonable to expect a discount at an AD??

cheers
Mike

My thoughts exactly. I am liking the black dial TT Sub. Never really liked TT Rolexes of any kind before this thing appeared, but its launch does coincide with me gliding through my mid thirties and therefore.......getting old. Hence I now like a bit of gold! ;)

The new TT sub in black looks much nicer than the GMT II 116713 equivalent I would say. The numbers on the GMT's bezel are too big and bloated. The sharper, smaller numbers on the sub make the watch look classier.

Here's an ad with the GMT (see the bloated numerals!!), it says list is £6,440. I would assume the sub will be similar/dearer?

After looking at the new ceramic TT Subs, I have (again) found the need to buy one.

Better start saving!

I think the ceramic bezel is the best thing to happen to Rolex since the mineral crystal. Sorry, bit of a modernist. The ceramic is so much the best choice for a tool watch. It is bright clear and will last, without scratching or fading, and it looks great. It is totally inline with what Rolex says to me.

Do we know when the SS version of the new Sub is out?

Another wee question.......does the Deapsea have a ceramic bezel?

harb

...does the Deapsea have a ceramic bezel?

Yes - the ceramic bezel was first intoduced on this watch.

Do we know when the SS version of the new Sub is out?

Although the 18k models were released at Basel 2008 and the TT this year, I think it's unlikely that the SS will be next year.
So, this being Rolex, who knows!

Thanks Harb, I appreciate the info. I think ceramic bezels are going to be handy due to their scratch resistance. I am minded to trade in white dial Explorer II (the bezel scratches quite easily) for a new version TT Sub, but I will wait to see one in the flesh first. Being a TT, it might be wiser to wait and get a used one, or even negotiate a discount in a year or 2 maybe? I'll see how much money I have down the back of the sofa.

Hope Rolex will put out SS Blue Sub.

That would be my choice. The WG looks wonderful but at $20K it's simply not affordable.
