Hi there was just wanting to share the story of my first watch. when i was 16 my father bought me my first proper watch a tag f1, at the time i just loved it and beeing 16 i didint really have a care in the world and well lets just say was a bit of an idiot, well after having it for 2 years i lost the watch!..
I was so pissed off that i had lost this watch but after a year or so the pain gradally subsided, any way. a year or so later my father died and it brought back memorys of this watch which he had bought me , i was so upset that i had been so careless with this watch as the years went by i moved out of my house and into my flat and that christmas my mum said she had a very special xmas present for me, now i couldnt figure it out???.
Well come christmas day she presented me with the watch my father had given me - it had been found under the carpet in my bedroom when redecorating into my mums new office and she had sent it off to get fixed by tag, "like brand new". the best xmas of my life and one day i will never forget.
For this reason i just wanted to share the emotional value attached to a watch, it's my most treasured time piece and yet it is the cheapest but to me it's the best and most treasured as it brings back the conection i had with my dad and il be sure to never loose this watch again, hope you guys have some storys to share cos this is waht watches are all about :D

Now that is a fantastic story, Mark - thank you for sharing it.

There may be people to whom you'll recount that story who just won't get it - but they're not the people you'll find here on TURF.

The emotions tied to that watch far transcend its monetary value - or indeed lack of it!

I'm sure you'll look after it with your life, now...

Thanks again for sharing!

Great post !!

I know that when I was 16, 17 yo (as a diver) I lusted after one of those. I remember going thru their catalogues untill they fell apart.

A few years later I bought my first used Rolex.

Great story! let me share mine :)

My first actual watch ( Not taking into account, swatch when I was in school) was a Seiko aviator's watch . Quartz of course. It was given to me by my aunt when I turned 16 and I absolutely loved that watch!

I lost it while travelling by train, and I honestly would be still wearing it today had it not been for that accident.

your right tickinscotsman.

i think all of us watch nuts have stories and memories, i always loved swatch and i realized i was mad about watches from around the age of 18, my boss at work had a gold day date on presidential bracelet i think, it was a white dial with roman numerials, i envied him so much. haha. that was 20 yrs ago, how time flys, since then i got my first tag a blue rubber one. about 18 yr ago, still going strong in bed side table to thisday. that will alwys be my 1st watch love, does anyone look at old watches and think how small they are?

cheers andy

Fantastic story mate, really enjoyed reading it, and had a smile on my face as I read it :)

I only really got into watches when I first starting working at the local Mercedes-Benz dealership and customers and fellow sales execs seemed to be watch-daft!

I however could never imagine anyone spending 2k+ on a watch...however I admired them in Rolex AD windows for ages, then eventually I spotted a beautiful 16234 Datejust, Jubilee bracelet, 18ct white gold fluted bezel, ivory arabic dial, and I fell in love with it.
It was £2,300 at the time (when Rolex were much cheaper) and I haggled the guy at Mappin and Webb down to £2,000. This was a TON of money for me and a massive purchase.

I sold it a few years later to buy a Sea-Dweller, but I never forget the feeling of going into that big AD and trying on a £2,300 watch and the feeling when I actually bought it. That delighted feeling, but kind of sick feeling due to the money element involved....also what my parents would say lol..

Not having a lot of money, having a Rolex obsession isnt easy, so I have to sell one to buy the other. However I still wonder where my 16234 ended up and who is wearing it now....

Funny how watches make memories isnt it?

Cheers,
Nairn
