View Full Version : If we had not moved here?

I am certainly not technically minded when it comes to modern technology and the internet, but I just wondered, if we had remained on the old TURF site would it have made any difference?

Is there an obvious advantage to moving to this new generic site?

Why do we now look the same as several other watch sites?

And are things slower now that we have moved?

If it is proved that things are slower should we regress once more to whence we came, in order to increase the usage?

Why did we move in the first place, by which I mean the most recent move? Not the actual move which was made several years ago from THE Original TURF.

Well, you wouldn't have been able to post your question! :)

I am of the same oppinion as Rod , I prefer a simple approach to forums . I like the older version for its simplicity and ease of navigation and chilled approach. There are so many Forums now that all use the same software , animations, adverts taking ages to load etc etc Many over use the miriad of features and become imho childish. I hope we keep to a similar model as before.

It's human-nature.....most people don't like change.

In a few years time, when the forum software is inevitably upgraded again, people will be thinking back to this current software in a misty-eyed rememberence of how much they liked it.

I agree on those points, Seth, but you'll have already seen that, even in the short time we've been on the new software, we've tightened up on the types and sizes of animations/avatars, signatures and smilies that can be used.

I, too, think that a profusion of animations can look childish but we aim to keep TURF looking a bit more grown-up than that.

I don't think that the pages load any slower but you can, of course, always turn off the animations/sigs in your User CP settings.

And anyway, you and Roz are just misty-eyed, rose-tinted romantics.... NTTAWWT :):)

Since you like animated gif's so much here is a perfect one to describe this thread.

LOL! :) Didn't we used to have someone with an animation for every event? I can't remember who it was.

I finally made it over here from the old site, and I rather like it.

Usually prefer old vs. new, and dislike change in general, but the old board did seem a bit antiquated in layout and features in my very humble opinion. The general lack of icons and smiley stuff doesn't bother me too much, though I've found even that grew on me a bit after use on other forums.

I like the new one. It is the same as the other boards that I follow...so there's less for my feeble little mind to need to learn about how to use it :)

The reason this website looks like "other" watch forums is because of modern technology. :)

It is the CONTENT and members and moderators that make it BETTER than other watch forums.
Seriously. I like this much better, thanks guys!

If we had to upgrade our software, couldnt we at least get something that doesnt look indentical to other fora?

Some forum's software have features where you can alter the appearance of what you see on your computer, 'skins', so to speak, and it does exactly what you speak of Suhail. I checked and it's not in the users CP here. Maybe it's available as an "add on" for the server software for more money or may not even be available at all. That would be a question for the staff/mods to answer.

The best thing is never go to the other watch forums and you'll never know what this forum looks similar to.

Just a thought............... ;)

Not other watch fora, I frequent a car forum which looks the same.

But we're just good friends! I still love TURF ;-)

I think it was a case of keep up or die....

I've thought for a long time that it's a shame, we have without doubt the best crowd of posters and mods here, of any of the forums I frequent, yet it would seem we have the least traffic.

Hopefully with the new software people will be more inclined to join and the post count will increase.

it all depends on how well the web site is advertised in google.
At the moment if your search for "rolex" we are only visible in page 7 which is pretty bad.
If we search for "rolex forum" we are visible right away in page one which is super!
