I need to pick something up for the beach and other nefarious activities (new Rolex purchases are on hold until I bring in another client or two) and the Seiko Titanium Chronograph seems to fit the bill nicely as the Monster is too big for my wrist. Anyway, any comments or possible alternatives would be welcome - the watch retails at £250 but I can pick it up for £130 on eBay.

Watch Description:

LUMIBRITE HANDS & MARKERS
SEIKO TITANIUM BRACELET

don't do it. Your Rolex can handle anything you give it. I have 3 that I regularily wear through a rotation. I keep the rest of my collection in mint condition. The regular wearers still look wonderfull.
If you are considering another purchase at least consider an automatic watch.

Seikos are popular as beaters on here; lots of us have something from their diver range. Personally, I'd prefer a strap to a bracelet, especially on a beater which is likely to get scratched-up.

I did have that thought myself, as it happens... particularly a rubber strap that won't mind chlorine and/or salt water. I'll have another look at them.

I agree completely with Joe.

Your Sub will handle anything...and if you're worried about taking it to the beach just remember...it is a diving watch - possibly the diving watch - and that is part of the habitat it was designed for.

Short of doing heavy construction work where there is a serious risk of serious damage, there is no place your Sub can't go. You're selling the watch, and yourself, short to do otherwise.

LOL! Get outta here! :):)
(Well, not literally, of course! I'd have said "give over" but that might have confused our cousins over the Pond...;))

Just be aware, though, if you are wearing your watch in a salt-water environment that you remember to wash it thoroughly with fresh water afterwards.

Oh...and one more thing...drying your watch afterwards with angels' wings and storing it in a box lined with the same is entirely optional.

Unless you're Nairn1980 for whom this is part of his nightly ritual in looking after his watch...;)

There's an irony there, but unfortunately I can't reveal what it is on a public forum!

Amusingly, I once knew a Beata Schmeiter - it was in Berlin, between the wars...she was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar (that much is true)...

That's the second time I've noticed you slip in a subtle (or not so) musical reference. Impressive!

(You'll be telling us next that she plays piano every Friday at The Hollywood.)

Mind you, I getting a bit like this with studio lights, having just bought yet more! I've now got 6 monoblocks and and power-pack with a pair of heads. My house is beginning to burst at the seams with all my studio equipment! The sooner our building work gets done, the better! :)

The Xezo Air Commando automatic: Swiss-made ETA 2836-2 automatic, 25 jewels, 38 hours power reserve, stop second device, Incabloc shock-absorber device. Sapphire crystal front and back with twin independently-rotating bezels.

I have to say, I love the clean look of this one. Do any TURFers have one, by any chance?

The twin bezel is an interesting idea - a cheap way to track another timezone (although you still have to remember whether it's showing am or pm)

True :p

I'm about to buy one (limited offer, $850 dollars down to $494), and may or may not just flip the Monster when it arrives! What do you prefer - black or silver dial?

Of the two, I prefer the black dial - I do not like the colours on the other: correctly blued hands are very nice, but that watch just has blue painted hands.

Yes, I think I agree with you. For a watch of this quality, I'm surprised they're such a little-known brand though - there's some interesting stuff on the net about them. It also seems that a previous model had a 4th 24hr hand, couple with 24hr marker around the edge of the dial (more like a GMT function, in other words).

Anyway, the Monster's due to arrive tomorrow, so I'll see how I feel when it's on my wrist and then make a decision. I suppose to beaters for the equivalent of £500 - both great quality - would be something of a result anyway.

A word of caution, though. There are countless watch brands out there who use generic movements. Some use ancient Swiss names which have been resurrected and have nothing to do with the original marque (although they will try and create this link on their advertising). Others, like Xezo which is an American company, have their watches assembled in Switzerland to get the "Swiss Made" marking. Often many of these brands are manufactured in the same factory.

They sell via internet or newspaper ads with what seem like bargain deals eg "This watch retails at £800 but we can bring it to you for £240" - I'm sure you've seen those kinds of ads. You'll still be paying significantly over the odds for what it is, but then that becomes a personal choice. It's probably better to be aware of the facts, though.

So there's no real reason for them to be a well-known brand.

However, a lot of people on other forums seem to be impressed with them so my rather general points can easily be countered by those specific personal opinions.

Noted, harb - I think you're subtly advising me to curb my enthusiasm :o

I suspect that I'll be a lot calmer come tomorrow (great tracking facility on the FedEx site!) and am slowly talking myself out of the Xezo idea now...

Thanks
