the price is high because of that little submariner on the dail (called PIG in this case)
They started making this model in 2007. When it came out most Panerai collectors loved it but didn't like the PIG on the dial.
Also, they had quite some difficulties with this ceramic case. Note it is not PVD, nor DLC but ceramic. Anyway the production process went terrible and therefor they could only make about 40 of these watches per month. As it was not a Limited piece (not 1 run) but a regular production with 1000 pce per year, they could not deliver the first 1000 in 2007 as it was ment to be.
The last pieces still are delivered today. While it should already be the second bath (the 1000 pce for 2008, in fact the third series being the 1000 pce for 2009)

Now, this explains why they are sought after, they are a 'rare normal production' :-)

But there is one extra thing that makes them more sought after. Like I said before, the Panerai-collectors did not like the pig on the dial.
And for once, we have a brand which listened to it's clients ;-) In Basel 2008 they announced that they would change the dial. the first series would have the pig, the series who will follow won't have this pig anymore.

And that's when things changed. collectors knew this would become a sought after piece. now eveybody wanted the one WITH the pig LOL

I can understand this, but I also don't like the "pig" on the dial.
Nice looking watch otherwise.

Wear it in good health Bruno, but...errmm...how about a more appropriate colour/material strap? ;)

well, the original strap is black but imo this is too much black.
Black dial, black case, black strap ... therefore I put it on a brown strap

LOL!!
I just can't do black and brown - it's a combination that, IMO, just does not work (unless it's a Doberman :))

Those examples look more black and tan than black and brown.... :-)

I think we need to be fair though and, in the interests of a balanced perspective, study some more examples of the second genre! :)

Sorry guys seems the watch looks close to this one FAKE or REAL (posted in an earlier thead)

In the example of the car, I'd still say black/brown is a no-go. A light tan or cream leather, maybe, but not that shade.

Your second example, however...I think an exception could be made...:)

Apart from the fact that the real one does not have a display back.

Whilst the fake you have linked to may superficially look like the real thing in blurry photos, you can be sure that in real life it will look and feel a piece of junk.
