After a couple of rides in the woods and requests for pictures, I've finally got round to taking some photos of my new bike!

So many trick parts on it you have to look twice to realise it's a bike. Fabulous quality of all the machined parts.
Tell me are disc brakes much better than the normal rim types?

looks good to me, nice color, overall a very nice bike.
This pictures are worthless without a picture of the rider :-)

Oh yes!!! Those disc brakes are incredibily sharp! It'd be all too easy to throw oneself over the handlebars if not careful!

The rider is in my avatar! :)

Disc brakes are waaaaaaay better than rim brakes, especially for mountain biking. Rim brakes will wear out the rims, especially if you ride in wet and muddy conditions. Rim brakes barely stop when wet. Discs, however, have more power, modulate the power and work even when soaking wet. Properly set up, hydros feel just like the power brakes on your car.
Finally, once you learn to trust the brakes in all conditions, you ride even faster. :)

Nope, I've looked at all the pictures and still can't see the engine!

I refer the right honourable Turfer to the answer previously given to Fer. :)

A lovely bike Chris: top quality throughout.
I was forgetting that it's full sus: although I've ridden them a few times (not your make) I've never owned one.... my mountain bikes are hardtails; I just like the minimal weight and simple looks (like me :))
I must also maintain my wife's belief (LOL!) that five bikes are not enough (not including enough bits and pieces to make several more!)
I may give full sus another look for the autumn - I like new toys :)

Then I recommend having a look at Ellsworth - they're certainly exclusive! :)

I shall... remembering that half the fun is looking around, comparing and choosing. The answer may well be Ellsworth in the end though.
Tom Waits got it almost right...
"The pleasure's in the chasing and not the apprehending,
The pursuit you see and never the arrest..."
But arrest is fun in the end.

But was he describing bikes or women?! :)
If you wanted to try an Ellsworth, you'd have to come over to the mainland, as there are only two places in the UK that sell them (as far as I'm aware).
For reviews, it's worth looking on MTBR.com

I don't suppose Tom Waits ever sang about bikes... maybe though... :)

That's a common story on the Island for many things... I work on the mainland much of the time anyway.

Great bike.. Do you ever ride it with the 'volvo owners' obligatory slippers and cardigan? :)
Looks like a very cool piece of kit, Chris.

Not a Volvo owner yet, but slippers and cardigan sounds comfy! :) Do you think anyone does slippers with cleats?
