I used my new GPS sat nav system on my bike for the first time this evening. It's a SatMap Active10 unit and I was very impressed with how well it tracked my progress and plotted my location on screen - it certainly saved me from getting lost a couple of times. One of the best things about the system is that it uses OS maps to show your location, meaning it's not just limited to showing where you are on roads, but off too! :) I'd certainly recommend it to any UK Turfers that enjoy time out in the coutryside.

I've been biking with GPS for years. Now I use the Garmin Edge 705, which has mapping and fitness features. It's pretty cool. I upload my tracks to various web sites where I can get all kinds of stats on the rides, and play them back on a map.

Having mapping GPS one the bike is especially nice when you get lost, or want to change the route of a ride to make it longer or shorter.

I have heard that the I-phone has an app for that... and if you take your I-phone, your friends can track your progress as well... they can also call you when you are passing a gorcery to have you stop and pick up something for them and then have you peddle it over to their flat... they'll say that they are just trying to help you exercise...

I have ridden with a friend's GPS while mountain biking, and I thought it quite fun. Would I actually buy one? No way. 1) I'd be afraid of smashing it during a crash, and if you bike enough in the woods, rocks and fall lines you WILL crash. 2). I like riding light, so the GPS becomes just another boat anchor.

YMMV
