  • Bonhams new man

I am someone who likes to tell it straight. Not too keen on BS

This guy has been appointed head of watches at Bonhams. Good for him, I am very happy for him

One of his claims to fame is that he designed a tourbillion watch.

Nowhere on his site is any mention of the movement. Plenty of talk about how his drawings sent to New Zealand, became this wonderful tourbillon watch.
But nothing about the movement, the very element that makes it a tourbillon watch.

Is it perhaps because the movement is a Seagull tourbillon, made in china.

Designing watches is a noble and magnificant persuit, one worthy of the highest praise. It takes, I think, a little more than making a sketch, sending it to a case maker, along with a Chinese, off the shelf and slightly ropey, movement.

Claiming to have designed a toubillon watch when that is all you have done, for me, falls in to the category of B S http://www.paulmaudsley.com/

If that is Bonham's level of discernment in employing their top watch man. I wouldn't entrust them to sell an old pair of socks!

You'd need their fashion expert for that task!

Or, alternatively, an, 'Argh!!! My eyes! It burns! It burns!' moment.

              A proud Scotsman (With Rythm!!!)

As a fellow Scot, I can relate completely and utterly with the "STAR" in the previous photograph.

Since I was a young pup in this Tropical paradise of upper England, I have been looking for the famous "Heroic Dancer of the Highlands." The one who had inherited the dancing style of the greatest historical dancers and who had a dress sense to die for.

Even better, he is shy, retiring and very uncomfortable when in the public gaze. In short he is a true Scotsman.

Oh! can't you just feel that beat?

And as Mr Maudsley was appointed Director of Watches at Phillpps Auction House in 2015, it appears he was not adversely affected by the original post!

Bloody hell, Chris - way too much time on your hands!

Here's a question, though - where did you find that photo? That's clearly one of mine, that I posted here at some time. But why does it have the "copyright afcattanach" writing at the bottom??

Harb, if you had a glove on that hand I'd run as fast as I can in the opposite direction.

It was lifted by someone who copyrighted on one of those "speciality" websites on the dark web............

If that dancer had been turned a little more to his right, we could have seen the famous Blue Dial Sub!
