Serial Number - confused - TURF

My steel GMT II (ceramic) is an F series (7 numbers after the letter). I thought F series were produced around 2004, which clearly is before the steel GMT was introduced. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Random serial would have been my first guess....

Thanks, that makes sense now. I looked in the reference section & saw Harb's post - in my mind I just thought the random serial numbers began with a number.
