I bought a new Submariner with Date in August 2016 from an English AD for full retail price.
For reasons too complicated to bore people with it remained in my bureau fully stickered and tagged and totally unworn.
I decided to sell last week and approached several dealers and received offers ranging from £4800 to £6000 .
I did not want the potential hassles of a private sale and so took the 6K which represented a modest profit.
    Regards

Always good to know what the market's doing.
      Thanks!

£4800 seems very low with the limited amount of subs in AD's.

You did well to get a modest profit from a dealer - just imagine the mark-up they will now put on it!

The world is full of low-ballers (and that is not a medical condition!).

Yes I was surprised at the range of offers and I'm sure the mark up will be considerable but hey ho every body has to live .
I still have the comfort of being able to choose to wear my 21yr old Datejust or 10yr old Calatrava.
However since retirement I find myself not wearing a watch at all on many days.

Funny but I never go a day without wearing a watch. Even if I have a mobile phone that gives me pretty good network time. And today, because my GMT2 gains a consistent 7 seconds a day and I have been wearing it for a few weeks, I sat down at lunchtime and adjusted the Rolex back to the network time...........sad but true!

Just habit, I suppose, but a watch is the only piece of male jewellery I have ever worn!

My Datejust was a present ( reward ) from my late wife on gaining a consultants post in the NHS.
                  I wear a simple wedding band .
Now retired no longer have to play the status game ...no more suits or silk ties etc.

I recently spent several years working in an environment where casual clothing (polo shirt and chinos) was fine and everyone in the unit wore roughly the same, except when uniform was occasionally mandated. So everyone was on a level playing field as regards the clothes status game. But when it came to watches, there was a whole range from Swatches to Rolexes - but they weren't treated as status symbols!

Someone wore their Garmin one morning but that was quickly found out and rectified!

My 16 yr old son is interested in going into that field. When I did my degree, I specialised in sports' psychology and psychomotor learning. Latterly though, I'm more experienced at being a patient.
